College this fall may be different in many respects. One thing that probably won’t change is that colleges will want to get paid for teaching classes. This marks the 10th year that Mennonite Insurance has offered college scholarships. The application is all online this year, so it should be easier than ever for students to apply. Meet New Staff Member Vic Alemania

Mennonite Insurance Services recently added new employee Vic Alemania to their team as the Regional Sales Manager for California, Oregon, and Washington. We took some time to chat with Vic recently and get to know him a little better. Vic was born and raised in the San Francisco area and currently lives in Walnut Creek. He works from home, but travels from city to city to meet with clients.

This has been a difficult time for everyone but people continue to find new ways to connect, including churches–whether it is via Zoom, YouTube, Facebook, or other online video options. A multitude of churches have been streaming their Sunday services online, and many have managed to put their other programs online as well.
Some churches have even found that this situation has brought them unexpected opportunities for ministry. “Our vision sees beyond our walls, but our regular schedule resists that,” says Mark Isaac, Lead Pastor at New Life Community in Dinuba, CA. “Having to close our facilities on March 15th we immediately went to two broadcast formats to reach our people and the community: radio and the web.”

During this difficult time, it has been encouraging to see so many people stepping up and using their skills and time to help others. One way that this has been happening across the country is by making face masks, since it is nearly impossible to buy them in stores or normal online sources. Even health care and other essential workers have trouble finding enough. Some people are making them to sell (often donating some of the money to those who need it right now) and some are making them to give to those on the front lines.

Mother’s Day is almost here and how we celebrate will be limited by having to stay in our own homes. However, at a time like this mothers deserve to be honored more than ever. Mothers with children at home have suddenly become teachers as well, helping their children maneuver school online. Mothers also find themselves worrying more than ever about their children and keeping them safe from this horrible virus, whether their children are young or adults.
